Avatar 2 surpasses $1 billion in 14 days Globally

Avatar: The Way of Water” has surpassed $1 billion in global box office sales after only two weeks in theatres. The impressive milestone puts the Disney blockbuster ahead of “Top Gun: Maverick,” which didn’t reach the $1 billion mark until 31 days after its release.

The previous record was held by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021, which took 12 days to reach the milestone. “The Way of Water” has broken that record. In the movie industry’s history, only six films have made more than $1 billion in their first two weeks of release.

The long-awaited sequel to “Avatar,” directed by James Cameron and released in the middle of December, opened to $134 million in North America and $435 million globally. It has continued to be a significant box-office attraction since its debut. The Disney and 20th Century Fox picture has raked in a total of $1.025 billion worldwide, with $317.1 million coming from North America and $712.7 million from other countries. It has now eclipsed “Jurassic World Dominion” as the year’s second most earning movie and is the third highest-grossing movie of the pandemic era.

Even if a victory of this magnitude is regarded as a hugely positive development in almost all other contexts, it is not quite apparent whether or not Avatar 2 will be able to reach the predicted break-even point. Remember that Cameron mentioned before that for the movie to achieve that goal, it needs to become the “third or fourth highest-grossing film in the history of the world.”Star Wars: The Force Awakens and his 1997 catastrophe romance blockbuster Titanic have grossed over $2 billion each. Hence they presently hold the top two spots in terms of highest-grossing movies of all time.

Avatar: The Way of Water, directed by James Cameron and released in 2022, follows the 2009 original picture by 13 years. The plot of the sequel focuses on the efforts of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) to safeguard their children from the re-emergence of the Sky People and Colonel Quaritch (Steven Lang), who is intent on exacting his vengeance. The name of this new Navi water tribe is the Metkayina, and it is introduced in the movie.

The motion picture is up for nomination for two categories at the Golden Globes in the following year. James is up for the award for Best Director, and the film is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama. The American Film Institute and the National Board of Review have ranked the science fiction feature film as one of the top 10 films of 2022, making it a triple winner.
