His father initially was from Villa Purificación, Jalisco, and his mother was from Charcas, San Luis Potosí. Pena grew up in North Lawndale. He studied at Marist High School which was in North Lawndale. Michael was not much interested in studies. But he was a Scientologist. But later on, Pena graduated his high school from Hubbard High School. He didn’t join university for further studies.

Michael Pena started his career as an actor since the year 1994. Pena started giving his evolutional performance in the Oscar-winning movie i.e. Million Dollar Baby released in 2004 and Crash which was released in 2004.
Pena had also featured in the Golden Globe-winning series named The Shield. After starring in The Shield, his acting career was taken into a new level. Pena enunciated the character of Ricky in FX animated comedy movie Chozen. Pena too had his band back in Los Angeles in the year 2005 which was named as Nico Vega, after his mother’s name Nicolasa.
To go along with his acting career, he gave up with his band in 2007 but then he also had co-written the tacked called “Beast” which became successful as it reached #26 on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs Chart.
