Early Life

Jones was born in Los Angeles, California, to Peggy Lipton and Quincy Jones. She is the younger sister of American actress, model, and Fashion Designer Kidada Jones. Rashida’s mother is an actress, model, and singer, while her father is a record producer, songwriter, and Musician.

Her ethnicity is African-American, and her horoscope is Pisces. Jones attended Hebrew School and went to Harvard University to further pursue her studies. She was interested in becoming a lawyer, but later she got involved in ART and MUSIC.

Career

At an early age, she displayed her ability in music by playing classical piano. Jones acted in several plays and started her professional steps in 1996, starring in The Last Don. Four years later, in 2000, she appeared in If These Walls Could Talk 2.

In 2004, she was seen in a drama film, Strip Search and comedy-drama film, Little Black Book. Rashida played a role- Hannah in Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, directed by John Krasinski. We saw her as Zooey Rice in I Love You, Man.

Next, she appeared in The Social Network and  Monogamy in 2010. In 2011, she starred with Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis in Friends with Benefits. Jones also has a cameo in the Beastie Boys. 

 Celeste and Jesse Forever was the movie she co-wrote in 2012. She was seen (had the lead role) in and as  Angie Tribeca. The documentary produced by Rashida-Hot Girls Wanted-was acquired by Netflix. 

Rashida Jones wrote Frenemy of the State, a comic book series. Jones also co-wrote the teleplay of “Nosedive.” To the point of surprise, she also worked as a contributing editor at  Teen Vogue magazine.

In her music career, though it was not as fruitful as she expected, she first provided backing vocals for the band Maroon 5. Jones was a guest vocalist for The Rose That Grew from Concrete, released in 2000. She also sang for charitable events to raise money for breast cancer research.

Her song, Wanted to Be Loved, was featured in her documentary Hot Girls Wanted. The song “More Than a Woman” by Aaliyah featured Jones in the video. In 2013, Rashida directed the music video for the song “Brave.”

Rashida starred in Speak Out series with Natalie Portman. And she also guest starred in two episodes in  Web Therapy. She also provided the voice for the comedy series The Awesomes.

Apart from her Movie and Music career, she is also a Philanthropist. She has worked for several welfares and non-profit organizations to promote and fight against children-violence. Jones has helped fundraise for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Her philanthropic works also include fighting against poverty.
