Jenna Ortega is officially a Golden Globes nominee

For the 80th annual ceremony in 2023, the Golden Globes will return to their usual format, celebrating the best in film and television from the previous year. On January 10, 2023, at 7 p.m. CST, the Golden Globes will be broadcast. Since the Golden Globes are such a prominent event, usually only the most widely praised films are given awards. Wednesday was mostly accepted by critics, earning a 72% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which I found to be rather low.

Now that Wednesday has proven to be a huge success for Netflix, it was only a matter of time before the spooky anthology series was showered with nominations.

The spooky and funny adolescent sitcom has been nominated for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, and its actress, Jenna Ortega, is up for the award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy. This information was provided by TV Line. That’s quite an accomplishment for a show that’s geared toward families!

Wednesday is competing against series that had tremendous years in 2022, such as Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, and Hacks. All of these shows have a similar audience. In the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, Ortega will compete against the likes of Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary, Kaley Cuoco for The Flight Attendant, Selena Gomez for Only Murders in the Building, and Jean Smart for Hacks.

The nomination was given to Ortega due to her critically acclaimed performance as the titular Wednesday Addams. There is little question that at this point, many people will be demanding that Ortega be awarded the prize.

In terms of the show itself, Wednesday is up for consideration for the Emmy Award in the category of Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. The first episode of Wednesday was released on Netflix on November 23, and ever since then, the show has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from viewers and critics alike.

Most of the acclaim, however, has been heaped onto Jenna Ortega for the delightfully deadpan performance she gave as Wednesday Addams. Wednesday has not only been met with a great response from critics, but it has also experienced a significant increase in viewership figures.

The number of hours spent watching an English-language Netflix series on a Wednesday is now the most of any single day of the week. During its first week available on the streaming platform, it racked up a total of 341,200,000,000,000 minutes of viewer time.

Even though only time will tell if Ortega is successful in bringing home the gold, the fact that the actress, who is only 20 years old, is lighting the internet on fire with memes and earning a lot of accolades for her portrayal in the series makes it seem as though 2023 is building up to be her year.

Showrunner Miles Millar has previously hinted at what he would want to see happen in the second season of Wednesday, so this kind of success should guarantee that the program receives the green light for a second season.
